The South Carolina Universities Research and Education Foundation (SCUREF) was incorporated in 1988 by the four major research institutions in South Carolina: the Medical University of South Carolina, Clemson University, South Carolina State University, and the University of South Carolina.
SCUREF’s mission is to enhance the education and research programs in energy, national security, environmental management, and in health-related areas for its member institutions and for universities throughout the United States.
SCUREF supports its sponsors, which include Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, the U.S. Departments of Energy, Defense, and Homeland Security and the National Nuclear Security Administration in the development of university-based research and education programs in science and engineering.
SCUREF programs cover undergraduate scholarships; graduate research fellowships; post-graduate appointments; junior faculty awards; and institutional support. Over the past two decades SCUREF has supported over 500 students and faculty members from over 50 US universities in programs at Research and Development laboratories in the US and occasionally in Europe. Most SCUREF appointments include practical on site research appointments. All program efforts are designed to develop a sustainable highly educated workforce in critical skill areas.
